My P1 Meter doesn't turn on, what can I do?

Check whether your P1 Meter needs additional power

Updated yesterday

If your P1 Meter doesn’t turn on or the light doesn’t come on, there can be several causes.

Check if your P1 Meter needs additional power

With older smart meters (SMR 2 and 4), the P1 port does not supply power or supplies insufficient power. The status ring on your P1 Meter stays off or blinks orange. In that case, you’ll need a USB-C adapter set to power the P1 Meter.

Plug the USB-C adapter into the bottom of the P1 Meter and connect it to a wall outlet.

Even with newer meters, such as Kaifa or Sagemcom, the P1 port may provide insufficient power. Sometimes a P1 port works properly for years and later delivers less power, causing the P1 Meter to turn off. In that case, you’ll also need a USB-C adapter.

On this page, you’ll find an overview of the most common smart meters.

Is your P1 Meter not working?

The P1 port may not be enabled yet. In most countries, the P1 port must first be activated by your grid operator before it can be used.

Recently switched energy suppliers? The port may need to be activated again.

My smart meter works, but the P1 Meter stays off

Do you have a smart meter where additional power should not be required, and your P1 Meter still doesn’t turn on?

Please check if:

  • The plug is firmly inserted into the P1 port.

  • The P1 Meter works when connected to a USB adapter.

  • There is no splitter or extension cable in between.

  • The ring briefly lights up when connecting (this may indicate an unstable connection).
