The HomeWizard P1 Meter does not measure your gas consumption itself, but reads the data through your smart meter. The gas meter sends its meter reading wirelessly to the smart meter. The P1 Meter then reads this value via the P1 port.
In this article, we explain how this works.
How does the gas meter reading reach the P1 Meter?
The chain looks like this:
Gas meter → Smart meter
The gas meter sends its total reading (m³) wirelessly to the smart meter.
This happens:
Every 5 minutes with newer meters
Every 60 minutes with older smart meters
Smart meter → P1 Meter
The smart meter collects the gas meter reading and sends it via the P1 port as part of the P1 telegrams.
The P1 Meter reads this data and sends it via Wi-Fi to the HomeWizard app.
P1 Meter → HomeWizard app
In the app, you see:
The current gas meter reading (m³)
Consumption per interval (depending on how often your meter provides updates)
Overviews per hour, day, week, month, and year
Why do I sometimes only see one update per hour?
Whether your gas consumption updates every 5 minutes or once per hour depends on your smart meter.
Newer smart meters
The gas meter sends an update every 5 minutes
You see consumption in shorter intervals in the app
Older smart meters
The gas meter only sends one update per hour
Your gas consumption in the app is updated at most once per hour
The P1 Meter cannot change this and depends on the data provided by the smart meter.
What exactly does the P1 Meter measure?
The P1 Meter shows:
The total gas meter reading (as shown on your physical gas meter)
Consumption per interval (5 or 60 minutes, depending on your smart meter)
Overviews of hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly consumption
Consumption is calculated as the difference between two consecutive meter readings.
Is gas consumption visible in real time?
No, gas consumption is not fully real time, and that is normal.
Your gas consumption is:
With newer meters: 0–5 minutes old
With older meters: 0–60 minutes old
Electricity consumption via the P1 Meter is updated every few seconds.
That is why electricity graphs appear to respond faster than gas graphs.
I don’t see any gas consumption. Why?
If you don’t see gas consumption in the app, there may be several reasons:
Your smart meter is not linked to a gas meter
The gas meter is not sending data (not yet activated by your grid operator)
The gas meter may use an older protocol that is not properly transmitted via the P1 port
There is a temporary issue with the smart meter or grid operator
In that case, check:
Whether a gas meter reading is shown on the smart meter itself
Whether gas is active with your grid operator
Whether the P1 Meter is shown as “Online” in the app
