How do I add a widget on Android?

Updated over a week ago

With a widget, you can see your consumption, production, or costs right on your home screen. You can easily add, edit, or remove widgets. Here’s how:

Add a widget.

  1. Press and hold your home screen.

A menu appears; choose 'Widgets'. Depending on your device, this button may appear at the bottom or in a pop-up window.

  2. Find the HomeWizard widgets.

Drag one to your home screen.

  3. Choose what you want to display.

    Select:

    • Your home

    • The graph

    • The time period

  4. Tap Save.
After saving, the widget appears right away. You’ll first see the totals for the selected period. When you make the widget larger, the graph becomes visible too.

How do I edit a widget?

Want to change the graph, period, or home? You don’t have to remove it. You can simply edit it.

  1. Press and hold the widget.

    • Dots will appear to resize it.

  2. Resize the widget.

    • Drag the dots to adjust the size.

    • A larger widget also shows the graph.

  3. Move the widget.

    • Drag it to a different spot on your screen.

  4. Open widget settings.

    • On many phones, a small edit icon (usually a pencil) will appear.
On others, a small menu pops up where you can tap Edit.

  5. Adjust your settings.

    • Choose a different home (note: you’ll also need to select a new graph for that home).

    • Select a different graph.

    • Select another time period (today, this week, this month, this year).

  6. Tap Save to confirm your changes.

How do I remove a widget?

Removing a widget may look slightly different depending on your device, but it always works like this:

  1. Press and hold the widget.

  2. You’ll see one of the following options:

    • A trash bin icon at the top or bottom of your screen.

    • A menu with a “Remove” option.

  3. Drag the widget to the trash bin.

When you release it, the widget disappears.

How often does the widget update?

Android widgets refresh automatically:

  • Every 15 minutes, or

  • Immediately when you open the HomeWizard app.

Some widgets also have a refresh icon in the top right corner. Tap it to update right away.

What’s different compared to iOS widgets?

Android widgets work a bit differently than iPhone widgets:

  • There is no “recent” period on Android.

  • Android widgets refresh every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes. You can manually refresh them by opening the app or tapping the refresh arrows in the top right corner of the widget.
