With a kWh Meter you measure the power consumption or production of your solar panels, heat pump, EV charger, or another device. It is also possible to measure an entire electrical circuit or your main connection.
There is a kWh Meter for 1-Phase and 3-Phase. Which kWh Meter you need depends on the number of wires you must connect to fully measure the device.
How to recognize a device or circuit with 1 or 3 phases.
A 1-phase cable consists of 2 or 3 wires:
phase (brown)
neutral (blue)
optional: ground (yellow/green)
A 3-phase cable consists of 4 or 5 wires:
phase 1 (brown)
phase 2 (black)
phase 3 (gray)
neutral (blue)
optional: ground (yellow/green)
Good to know: even if your home has a 3-phase connection, most devices and circuits run on 1 phase. In that case you need a 1-Phase kWh Meter for that device or circuit.
⚠️ Connecting a kWh Meter requires knowledge of electrical installations and the risks involved. Not sure? Ask an electrician for help.
Maximum load.
Both the 1-Phase and 3-Phase kWh Meter support up to 100A continuous load per phase. This means they can measure more than four times the maximum current load of an average household. More than enough for any implementation.
Connecting without a ground wire.
The HomeWizard kWh Meters do not require a ground wire. It is also possible to connect the 3-Phase kWh Meter without a neutral wire (3P3W). Contact us via the green button at the bottom right of this page.
